Sonal Munsiff, MD, FIDSA

Sonal Munsiff, MD, FIDSA, is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Rochester where she is leader of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group clinical research site and co-director of the NTM and Bronchiectasis Care Center. She worked in the field of tuberculosis control for 15 years with the New York City Bureau of Tuberculosis Control and with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She has also conducted research on drug-resistant TB, complications and treatment of TB in people infected with HIV, molecular epidemiology, outbreak investigations and program evaluation and was part of the CDC TB clinical trials network. Currently, Dr. Munsiff has a multifaceted position that involves general ID and HIV patient care; implementing outpatient antibiotic stewardship; diagnosis and management of bone and joint infections and nontuberculous mycobacterial diseases; and clinical trials. She was the IDSA co-chair for the American Thoracic Society, CDC, European Respiratory Society and IDSA TB treatment guidelines update, which was published in 2024. Dr. Munsiff’s particular clinical interests are the management of patients with HIV and co-infections, mycobacterial infections, urinary tract infections, bone and joint infections, and ambulatory antibiotic stewardship.
