María Fernanda Rojas is a medical student at San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. She is an immigrant from Cochabamba, Bolivia, and was raised in southern New Jersey. After completing her undergraduate studies at the Southern Oregon University Honors College as a McNair Scholar, she took on the role of a research scientist-engineer assistant at the University of Washington’s Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine during her gap year. In 2022, she was admitted to medical school, where she is currently in her second year, pursuing her dream in the field of medicine. Her current research interests include HIV medicine with a particular emphasis on health care equity.
