Kwan Kew Lai, MD, DMD, an emeritus fellow of IDSA, is a Harvard Medical faculty physician at Beth Israel Deaconess-Needham Hospital. She has volunteered as a disaster relief medical volunteer in various parts of the world, including during Ebola outbreaks, the Syrian and Rohingya refugee crises and the war in Libya and Yemen. Dr. Lai is the author of Lest We Forget: A Doctor’s Experience With Life and Death During the Ebola Outbreak; Into Africa, Out of Academia: A Doctor’s Memoir; and The Girl Who Taught Herself to Fly.
