Diagnostics

Faster, more accurate tests would help ensure that patients are receiving the best treatment for a variety of infectious diseases, guide more effective infection control practices and improve the tracking of outbreaks. It is also critical to ensure the capacity to rapidly develop diagnostic assays in the event of an emerging infectious disease. Better tests would also help protect our dwindling supply of effective antibiotics by better identifying resistance and reducing their misuse.
In recent years, policymakers have proposed changes in oversight of diagnostic testing. IDSA has consistently provided feedback to make sure that policy changes do not result in diminished access to timely, accurate ID testing and diagnosis.
