IDSA Journals Launch Call for Associate Editor Applications

The Infectious Diseases Society of America’s journals, Clinical Infectious Diseases, The Journal of Infectious Diseases and Open Forum Infectious Diseases, are seeking ID-trained physicians to become associate editors. CID is seeking ID pharmacists (PharmD required) to become associate editors as well. The journals are launching a call for applications for all qualified individuals with interest in joining their editorial boards.

CID is seeking associate editors to join its new editorial board with incoming editor-in-chief Paul Sax, MD, FIDSA. Among areas of interest, CID is seeking editors with expertise in tropical medicine/parasitology, mycobacterial infections, hospital epidemiology/infection control, pediatric ID and immunizations, antimicrobial resistance, STIs, transplant ID, clinical microbiology and general infectious diseases practice. Candidates with broad clinical expertise and experience who can adjudicate the quality of clinical research even outside of their primary areas of focus are particularly encouraged to apply. New CID editors would begin training with IDSA’s manuscript submission system in April 2022.

JID is seeking associate editors to join its new editorial board with incoming editor-in-chief Cindy Sears, MD, FIDSA. JID is seeking editors with expertise in basic and translational infectious diseases including antimicrobial resistance, disease mechanisms and pathogenesis across the spectrum of infectious pathogens, international health, vaccine and drug development, novel diagnostics and therapeutics as well as genomics and microbiome science. New JID editors would begin training with IDSA’s manuscript submission system in August 2022.

OFID is seeking associate editors to join its editorial board with expertise in TB/mycobacterial diseases, antimicrobial resistance, clinical microbiology, transplant ID, HIV/SARS-CoV-2/virology and statistics. New OFID editors would join the editorial board immediately, as soon as their appointments are approved.

The editors are strongly interested in applications from members of underrepresented groups, including women; Black, Indigenous and people of color; Latinx people; and LGBTQ+ people.

Associate editors help review submitted manuscripts, invite peer reviewers for papers of sufficient quality and collaborate with the editor-in-chief and deputy editor(s) on decisions regarding publication. Soliciting original content from colleagues and ID fellows-in-training is also strongly encouraged, as are individual contributions. The associate editors participate in an annual meeting at IDWeek as well as periodic phone conference calls with the other editors. An annual honorarium is provided. The editors are open to part-time associate editor appointments for individuals who are interested in an associate editor role but require a reduced workload to balance other commitments.
