IDSA Releases COVID-19 Treatment and Management Guidelines
An expert panel of infectious diseases clinicians, pharmacists and other specialists convened by the Infectious Diseases Society of America has released guidelines for treatment and management of patients with COVID-19 with seven recommendations regarding the use of investigational treatments.
The Infectious Diseases Society of America Guidelines on the Treatment and Management of Patients with COVID-19 are intended to inform patients, clinicians and other health professionals with the most current available evidence on therapies being used or considered for treatment among hospitalized patients. The guidelines are intended to be recommendations, not mandates, and each physician is encouraged to make the best decision for their patient based on their own clinical judgement, in conjunction with the patient. The expert panel, composed of nine frontline clinicians and infectious diseases specialists who are members of IDSA, its HIV Medicine Association, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, emphasized the importance of patient recruitment into ongoing trials to yield urgently needed evidence on the efficacy and safety for potential treatments of COVID-19.
The guidelines are posted as a living document that IDSA will update in response to rapidly emerging evidence.
