Science Speaks Looks Back on a Decade of Global ID Coverage

Launched in February 2009 to amplify the voices of physicians and scientists in guiding global health policy and practice, the IDSA/HIVMA Science Speaks blog covered breakthroughs and setbacks that changed approaches to preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious diseases worldwide over the decade that followed.

On the eve of 2020, the blog took a look back at its reporting on research, policies and events that will shape action and ambition in the decade to come toward global health security and equity, including:

  • Milestones in HIV cure research;
  • Regulatory approval of breakthrough TB treatments and diagnostic tools;
  • The recognition of HIV treatment as prevention;
  • The overturning – and reinstatement – of policies limiting global infectious disease responses;
  • Reinvigorated research leading to vaccines and treatment for Ebola against the backdrop of the two largest outbreaks since the discovery of the disease . . . and more.

Take a look back with Science Speaks, at: A decade of global health advances.
