IDSA Experts Offer Credible Information to the Public as COVID-19 Outbreak Continues

With nearly constant news coverage of the COVID-19 outbreak, the public interest and concern remains high and IDSA experts continue to answer questions and calm fears through media interviews.  A recent NPR article examined the similarities between COVID-19 and “Contagion,” a 2011 film about a global virus outbreak that originates in Hong Kong. IDSA spokesperson Amesh Adalja, MD, FIDSA offered credible insight as myths about the outbreak continue to swirl. “Before transmission can occur, a virus that has entered cells in the body needs to make so many copies of itself that it reaches a threshold that activates the immune system to initiate coughing and sneezing,” he said.
