Membership Types

Student/Resident Member

Medical Students and Residents with an interest in the field of infectious diseases are welcome to join the Society to explore a potential career in the field of infectious diseases.

Postdoctoral-in-Training Member

Jumpstart your career in infectious diseases by joining IDSA as a member-in-training once you’ve begun a postdoctoral program in infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, or a related field.

Associate Member

Work in the field of infectious diseases but do not have specific postdoctoral or equivalent training in ID? Join the Society of your colleagues working in ID as an associate member.

Full Member

Individuals who have completed postdoctoral or equivalent training. If the majority of your professional activities are in infectious diseases or a related field, join IDSA as a full member.

Fellow of IDSA

IDSA recognizes individuals who have achieved professional excellence and provided significant service to the profession. IDSA inducts meritorious individuals who apply for fellowship after five years of full membership.

Criteria for Eligibility

  • Five years of IDSA Membership
  • Two letters of nomination
  • Complete the application for either the clinical practice or academic / investigator / administrator track

Emeritus Member

Members in good standing, upon reaching the age of 65 and retiring from ID professional activities, may be granted emeritus membership to stay connected to community of IDSA.

Criteria for Eligibility

  • 65 years of age (or any age for unexpected circumstance resulting in cessation of ID professional activities)
  • Retired from ID professional activities
